Orthodontics in Murphy, TX
Braces have been a tried and true method for improving smiles for decades. Did you know aligned teeth are not only more attractive but also healthier? When teeth overlap, are overcrowded, or have uneven spacing, it can negatively impact decay development and your bite. At Smiles at Murphy, we provide orthodontics and general dentistry in one location for your convenience.
Traditional Orthodontic Braces in Murphy, TX
Dr. Anshu Jain sought an additional two years of orthodontic training to expand her ability to treat patients’ entire dental system, including their teeth alignment. By taking this holistic approach to oral health, Dr. Jain can improve our families' health, function, and comfort.
To make orthodontic treatment more comfortable and efficient, Dr. Jain uses the Tip-Edge® Orthodontic Technique. Tip-Edge brackets use stainless steel brackets designed to apply constant low-force pressure with a memory wire that can actually eliminate the need for headgear and reduce treatment times. Since Tip-Edge® uses a pre-formed memory wire, fewer “tightening” visits are required. Patients experience less discomfort with this system, and the smaller brackets have less impact on appearance.
What Does Orthodontic Treatment Fix?
It’s easy to see teeth misalignment that includes visible characteristics like:
- Overcrowded teeth
- Overlapping teeth
- Open bite
- Gaps or spacing issues
More subtle conditions like malocclusion (a poor bite) may not be visible but can distribute uneven forces on our teeth as we chew, resulting in cracked and broken teeth or even sore jaw joints and muscles.
Am I Too Old for Braces?
Many of our adult patients initially seek Invisalign® clear aligners, but our adult patients can benefit from traditional braces as well.
Traditional braces correct complex orthodontic issues reliably and with predictable results. In some cases, traditional braces may be the preferred method for adult orthodontic treatment. Dr. Jain will discuss both traditional and clear aligner orthodontics with you, along with the pros and cons of each, to help you make an informed choice for your orthodontic treatment and the future of your smile.
How Does Orthodontic Treatment Work?
Dr. Jain will invite you for an initial evaluation in our Murphy dental office, where she will examine your teeth and bite, take diagnostic x-rays, photos, and take impressions to make models of your teeth, which are essential in treatment planning.
Once Dr. Jain gathers all of the information she needs, she will discuss your treatment options, treatment time estimates, and what to expect during your straight-smile journey. Once you decide to proceed with your treatment, our friendly staff will arrange the necessary appointments to attach brackets, along with upcoming follow-up visits.
When Should My Child Have an Orthodontic Evaluation?
We recommend children have an orthodontic evaluation by age seven or eight while their teeth and bones are still developing. At this early age, we can provide early intervention orthodontics like palatal expanders to guide proper jaw development and avoid extractions. However, it is never too late to have a straight, comfortable smile.
